Intro…
This is Michelle’s story. Michelle is a part of the Challenge of an Excellent Life Class in Grand Rapids, MI.
The Challenge of an Excellent Life Class is a group of young adults who have met most Sunday morning between September to May around 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Covenant Church to have engaged discussion about what it means to be a disciple of Christ in the context of modern life. Recently we spent 2 weeks on the topic of Christian Meditation.

Tuesday morning as the sun came up I tried to meditate the way Lola suggested. She requested that we try to write a journal about our experience so this is what happened:
I sat in a chair and faced the rising sun. First I held my hands down and asked for forgiveness for all the sins I know I commit and am weighed down by. I also released my physical ailments and my stress and worry over not having a job.
Then I raised my hands and asked God to fill me. These were my thoughts…I believe most of them were God talking to me.
First I thought of the scripture verse, “Be still and know I am God.” Then I thought of my favorite verses from Isaiah, “I have called you and said you are mine. I have chosen you and have not rejected you so do not fear for I am with you…I am your God.”
Then I asked God to fill me. And He responded, “My peace I give you. I give you my peace that surpasses all understanding.” And the rising sun warmed my face. Then the word kindness entered my mind. “I give you kindness and gentleness.”
Then the sun hid itself from me and I cried out, “Don’t leave me God.” And He said, “I want you to know that even in the darkness I am still with you.” The sun came back out and I again asked God to fill me, but nothing new came to me.
Then the sun hid itself again and God repeated, “Even in the darkness I am still with you.” And that was the last thing I heard Him say this morning while I meditated.

Thank you so much for sharing this! What a wonderful, heartwarming experience. It is always so refreshing to be reminded so tangibly of God’s constant presence, God’s unfailing love, and God’s power.
Thanks for sharing, Michelle!
